how to be yourself nner bliss

How to be yourself?

Fall in love with yourself…

… because you are perfect – just the way you are.

Self love seems like one of the hardest things to master in life, yet it feels so natural to embrace it when you finally quiet down all the voices around you.

Be you, bravely. People don`t have to like you and you don`t have to care. The only thing you have to do in life is – be happy. The only person you have to like in life is you. And when you do, nothing else matters.

You can`t change what is going on around you until you change what is going on within you. (more…)

Care tips and tricks for sensitive skin in your thirties

Sensitive skin is more common than you think

I have (very) sensitive skin and since you are reading this, I guess you do too. Sensitive skin is becoming more and more common. Alongside with food allergies and changes to the environment, sensitive skin is one of the top problems for many people.

Sensitive skin tips and tricks

People with a sensitive skin-type can feel like they are in a never-ending battle with their skin. We keep dealing with symptoms such as itchiness, extreme dryness, stinging and redness. Many often give up because finding a proper product to care for your skin can be overwhelming at times.

No matter the age group having sensitive skin is tiresome and a real problem at times, but for the purposes of this post I will talk from a perspective of a thirty-something non smoker, with no particular allergies or ailments.

Also, I will give you my honest opinion about a product I have been using for over a month now, product I found on my own and I am not reviewing it for any compensation. I just want to share my story about sensitive skin and how I found what works for me.

Skin type vs skin condition

Before we dive into the abyss called sensitive skin issues, first I would like to talk about the difference between skin type and skin condition. Sensitive skin is a type (of skin), while a condition is for example eczema, rosacea, psoriasis or allergic contact dermatitis.

The sensitive type

Sensitive skin type is described as type of skin that’s easily irritated or inflamed. It is not a skin condition though. It can, however, be caused by some of the medical skin conditions that I mentioned before.

Sensitive skin is:

  • very dry,
  • has a tendency to turn flushed and red easily,
  • skin reactions are caused by i.e. the environment or particular products.

What is sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin is the response of our skin (the organ) to a situation where the top layer – the epidermis – which protects our skin, is no longer as effective.
When that happens irritants have an easy way to get inside deeper layers of our skin and cause problems, irritations, inflammations etc.
In addition to irritations and other problems, when the top layer of skin is compromised, our skin loses moisture which leads to dehydration. Which is so not good.

What can cause sensitivity to your skin?

Many things, ranging from food, medication to ingredients and chemicals, stress levels, genetics, hormonal imbalance. The list goes on and on.

For the purpose of this post I will focus on products as a possible cause of sensitivity in my skin.

Before I tell you my story, I would like to mention few things to STOP doing right now.
Finding a right product for your sensitive skin can be a long process and removing potential culprits can only benefit your current state.

  • Avoid products with detergents or alcohols, perfumes, artificial colors, acids, retinols etc. – chemicals in general
  • Steer away from harsh exfoliants as they can aggravate sensitive skin. Pat, don’t rub, your face (and body) after showering, and finish with a lightweight moisturiser.
  • Showering – DO NOT put your face under the hot water. It dries out your skin even more, and makes it even more red.

Sensitive skin tips and tricks

Sensitive skin story of a thirty-something gal

Oh boy, Where to start? W h e r e t o s t a r t?

To be honest, I don`t remember having my (face) skin so sensitive while I was a kid, or in my teens, not even in my early 20s. I can remember starting to have sensitive skin problems in my mid 20s, and it only got worse from there.

My skin is extremely dry, but it “sweats” during the day so many, many “derma” experts always diagnosed me with combination skin, which was wrong. It took me years to figure it all out, but I guess that is life – you live and learn.

When you talk to your cosmetologists or dermatologists or any skin professional, please give them an extensive background of your skin (issues) so they can get a proper idea of the state you are in.

The issues I had with my skin were itchiness, burning sensations (when using some products), scaly spots, reaction to low temperatures in form of something resembling purple bruises. But the biggest problem I had with my sensitive skin was with face products.

Does coconut oil help?

Even coconut oil. I know. I know. Coconut oil cures everything. But only if it is (super) organic and cold pressed. Extra virgin too! I tried it all. Makes my face red.
And the worst thing it does is – oils it but leaves it scaly and dry. I know it sounds contradictory but that is the fact.

When it comes to face creams, I tried many. Dermalogica, L`occitane, Clarins, Clinique … the list goes on. And on. Avene. La roche posay.

Nothing worked. My face burned like crazy, it blew up red, tomato red and left me in agony because I wanted to rip my face off.

I even tried some baby cremes – those were the worst. But that was on me. I am not a baby, my skin is different, but I thought – babies have “sensitive” skin (not in the same “issue” way as I do), their products must be good for me. Wrong! At least for me.

Then I came at the end of the road. I didn`t know what else I could do.

Dado Sens for sensitive skin

But then I was introduced to Dado Sens line of products. It is a German based line, and their face cream is perfect for my poor tired skin.
Dado sens skin care

Here is what the description on the product says:

Cares for and calms very sensitive facial skin. Strengthens the resistance of the skin. Can prevent reddening, burning and itching. Helps the skin to regain its natural balance. With liquorice root extract, aloe vera, thermal water.

  • Can also accompany therapy for perioral dermatitis
  • Developed for allergy sufferers – Tested for skin compatibility

100 % free from fragrance, colorant, parabens, paraffin, silicone, PEG, animal extracts (VEGAN).

Dado Sens sensitive skin care

I can not say enough about this face cream, so I also bought an eye cream.
No more redness or itchiness, just silky smooth skin. No more scaly skin on my cheeks and chin and finally, thanks to their amazing eye cream I can put something on my eyes.
In addition to sensitive skin I had a problem with all eye creams I ever tried. And regular creams I applied on my eyes (don`t do that!).   Every eye cream so far made my eyes water and burn. Not with Dado Sens.

Gentle soothing care for the sensitive eye area. Visibly reduces dark circles and puffiness thanks to a highly effective combination of organic ingredients, such as caffeine, macadamia nut oil and plum stone oil. The lotion has been dermatologically proven to reduce puffiness.

My care tips and tricks for sensitive thirty-something skin

If you made it so far – thank you. Thank you so much for reading, this was one long post.
But I wanted to share my story, my experiences and bad decisions regarding sensitive skin care, my journey and what I have learned along the way.
I want to emphasize that this is my story, what worked for me, on me, for my type of skin. Although sensitive skin-type is one type many people have, we all live different lives, have a different genetic and environmental  background and what might have worked for me, might not work for anyone else. But I hope it does.
Dado Sens line is available in Mueller stores in Europe (i bought it in Croatia where I live) but I saw on their website that they sell in US too.
The prices are super nice, around 20 EUR for the face cream.
As a precaution I would advise anyone to patch test the product before using them – especially if they contain unfamiliar ingredients.
If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment, write an email or DM me on instagram.

The little things in life that make me happy

The key to your happiness are…

The Little things in life … are the most important things in the Universe! Those little, seemingly insignificant things in our daily life are exactly what makes us happy each and every day.

The rest (all those big stuff) is just a bonus.

So you have to start noticing the little things in life that make you happy. I am sure you are auto-piloting a number of them without even knowing that they once brought you joy. Or maybe they never did, you started doing them for some other reason, but the point is – they should.

Start paying attention to all the wonderful big little things in life that are shaping your path into happy future, you just need to be aware of them and how happy they are actually making you. When you do, you will always be happy.

And that is what we all want, right?

The little things in life currently making me happy

Little things in life that make me happy

What are the little things in life that make us happy, anyways?

They are whatever makes you feel happy when you are not, they are that something that makes you feel special, good, relaxed, thrilled – anything positive. The little things in life that make us happy are usually random and we “use” or experience them on a daily basis but not paying too much attention to them, not tuning in with our inner source and realizing how much those little things actually mean to us.

It can be sleeping in late, reading a book, having a spa or mani-pedi day, changing your hair color, putting on a new lipstick or listening your favorite song on repeat for the 756 time (which nobody but you needs to understand or like).

The little things in life can be literally anything and everything you want as long as it brings you joy.

My list of favorite little things in life is begins with a morning routine where I like to do all the stuff that is good, healthy and relaxing for me. I like to start my day very zen and very positive. After all the years of waking up at crack of dawn and needing 2 hours to get ready for work while multitasking and getting a bit neurotic, it is time to turn the table and do the things differently.

Also I like to listen to the music or some motivating podcast or speech while I get ready.
And while I always had my blinds down when I went to bed so the sun rising wouldn`t wake me (too early) last few days I am leaving the blinds up and falling a sleep to the light of the night and waking up to the sunrise. Nice, right?
And I am really enjoying that and appreciating the moment when I open my eyes and come to, I see the days rising. There is something uprising about that, at least for me.

Currently I am – loving, feeling, listening, touching, tasting, reading, dancing to … best little things in life

So, here is my list of the little things in life that are currently making me happy and this will to serve as a little checkup list for feelings and thoughts.

THINKING – less negative
FEELING – better and more positive
DREAMING – bigger
NEEDING – just enough
WANTING – but loving what I have
ENJOYING – my life and love

WATCHING – Imposters (it is funny, check it out)
READING – Door into Summer (nice SciFi)
LISTENING – Subeme la Radio (so guilty of replaying it, the counter at the moment says 94 repeats, I wont disclose in what time frame)
DOING – my #bujo and journal, even blogging!

EATING – mostly asian (and all the donuts)
DRINKING – water and herbal teas
COOKING – easy and quick
PLANNING – how to be even happier

This is it! My list for this week.
I am doing the same tracking in my bullet journal, so it will be nice to see the progress and the changes. I will share them here with you.

Also I would like to hear back from you, what do you think about this approach to life and what would you put on your list of the little thing in life that make YOU happy? Or on your #currently list.

Let me know in the comments! or an email if you are shy :)

Cheer up! It`s Monday. How to look forward to Monday?

Cheer up! It`s Monday is a new series I would like to introduce to my blog, under the Inner Bliss series.
The idea of the series is to start perceiving Monday as another awesome day of the week. I want to share with you all the reasons why Monday is equally awesome as Friday is. Even more so, I want to share all the reasons to look forward to Monday the whole weekend.

The purpose of Cheer up! It`s Monday is to pump you (and me) starting Saturday morning, so when the Sunday afternoon arrives you will still be high on the awesomeness of the weekend you had (nice and rested, full of energy and sparkle) but excited to start that amazing Monday you have been waiting so eagerly for.

Insane right?

How to look forward to Monday?

What is this Cheer up! It`s Monday series all about?

The purpose is to alter your (and mine too!) perception of the most dreaded day of the week. Poor Monday never did nothing to deserve such treatment and you do not deserve to be so blue every Sunday evening when you remember tomorrow is Monday.

There is no need (or point) to feel bad over any day of the week ever. Every day is an opportunity for us to feel awesome and to experience amazing things universe has set before us. The only problem is perception. Or energy, your thoughts. The stand you are having towards what is coming. And what is coming is another day that you can create any way you see fit.

Be a creator of your own awesome days, do not let other people that want to feel Monday`s blues color your day any color but the one that makes you happy.

Cheer up! It`s Monday

How to make Monday awesome?

In the Cheer up! It`s Monday series I will share things that make me happy, tips how to alter your vibe and how to pump up your vibration to pure happy and awesome.

With you, I want to explore all the ways we can get inspired to make Mondays awesome whether that is:

  • an outfit you can prepare on Saturday that will make Monday sparkle
  • new way to do your makeup, or to add some color
  • a list of plans and goals you want to start ASAP
  • anything that will make you feel Monday can`t come soon enough

Although this is just an intro post about the Cheer up! It`s Monday series,
I want to tell you that you should start with this today (tomorrow).

How to start to love your Monday today?

Take a moment or two before you go to bed and think about what would make tomorrow (any Monday) abso-fudgey-lutely amazing. If you want, you can make a list. I know I would. You can make a said list on a piece of paper, a notebook or you can use an app. Whatever rocks your boat and works best for you. Just do it.

You can start as big or as small as you want. Write your heart out and don`t worry about the number of items on your list, they are all awesome goals and important rockets of desire that will lead you into most awesome Mondays of your life and come true one at the time.

When you are done with your list, go over it and see which one can be done right now. The “easiest” one will get you going (do it!), it will start your sparkle and creative juices going and give you momentum and fill you with that thrill every Sunday afternoon dulls when you think it is Monday around the corner.
No more of that!

Hold on to that list. Revise it, add to it, admire it. That is your ticket to 365 awesome days of every year of your life.
Remember to peek on that list on Fridays and Saturdays so you can make needed preparations for your next super Monday.
I will remind you too.

Enjoy your Monday, I know I will.

Bicycle inspiration

Bike rides. The wind in your hair. The road in front of you, ready to take you anywhere you want.

Where do you want to go?

Bicycle inspiration bike rides cruise bike beach bike

As the end of February approaches I can not but daydream about spring that will soon come. I am so excited! Days are finally longer and warmer. Yesterday I sat on my terrace, soaked up the sun and enjoyed the warmth on my skin.

Thoughts about spring made me think of different adventures I could go on, places to visit and take photos of. Made me think of bike rides along the lake nearby. Bicycle inspiration bike rides cruise bike beach bike Bicycle inspiration bike rides cruise bike beach bike

Bicycle inspiration and a DIY project

When it comes to bicycle inspiration I have always wanted to own a cruise type, in some cute pastel color. Naturally I decided to look on Pinterest. There are so many pretty bicycles out there, it is so hard to choose a favorite one.

I have this old, retro bike at home that needs a bit of sprucing up, change of tires and a coat or two of paint. So, with pinterest on my side I decided to do a little DIY project and get my bike ready for spring rides!

Feel that wind in your hair!

This is a collection of possible designs, but they are all so pretty and it is hard to choose. It is like pokemon, gotta have them all.

DIY projects regarding bicycles look really fun. I found several tutorials on how to make pannier bags, how to personalize your bell, basket and light (and not just that, but baby steps).

Bicycle inspiration bike rides cruise bike beach bike

All the links to where these bikes are from can be found on my Pinterest board.

Pastels or polka dots

It was so hard to choose between those two, because I really like both. I was thinking maybe I should own several bicycles, in different colors and prints. If only.

So, my decision landed somewhere in the middle of two, it will probably be a pastel color for the base and doughnut print instead of polka dots. Amazing, right?

I found lots and lots of stickers and washi tape with images of cute little whimsical donuts. Did you know that you can washi tape you bike? Yes! and it looks awesome.

Project DIY my bike is on! Or it will soon be on, as soon as temperature is high enough for me to spray paint it.

But I have to say, the monochrome polka dot in the first photo looks rather amazing, right? How will I decide?!?!

The Violet Rhapsody wig review by Black Candy Fashion

Violet Rhapsody

As I already said in my previous wig post, a girl can never have too many wigs. Or eyeglasses for that matter but that will be discussed in a separate post.

This post is dedicated to the violet rhapsody, a lovely purple/violet colored wave-y wig from Black candy fashion wigs.

What is so special about Violet Rhapsody?

First thing I noticed when I took it out of the bag was how light weight it was despite the crazy amount of hair (fiber) it has.

The wig comes with a side part and a nice side swept fringe that is just the right length. Why just the right?

I have one other wig with a side swept fringe that is honestly very weirdly shaped and cut. It is hard to style a fringe that mostly ends up in your eyes.

With wigs it is important that they are cut right. Especially around the face, because you are somewhat limited with parting/styling options. This being a normal “cosplay” synthetic wig and not a lace front or a full lace wig. You can read about the differences here.

the violet rhapsody wig review_black candy fashion

Violet Rhapsody in numbers

The wig weighs around 300 grams and is 70 cm long, which makes it a nice long and rich wig, perfect for different styles and looks.

Talking about styles, the wig has a certain fairy vibe, with a dash of anime which would make this model perfect for different cosplay scenarios. I personally don`t do cosplay, but I style the violet rhapsody in cute half up-dos and vintage inspired styles.

the violet rhapsody wig review

How to secure your wig

The size of the wig is adjustable with little hooks in the inside, so you can be sure your wig will stay in place.

Additionally, what I like to do sometimes, when I know I will go a bit crazy with the head movements or just to take the worry of off my mind – I secure the wig on the sides with bobby pins. Or at the back. Depending on what style you are going for you can choose the placement of bobby pins, keeping in mind it should be the part where they are not visible.

the violet rhapsody wig review

Color story

The Violet Rhapsody wig is party straight on the top and on the fringe, but the rest of it is a light wave which contributes to its fairy-looking vibe, gives your mane a nice volume.

This wigs color is a perfect shade of violet, not to pinky, blue or purple – just perfect.
The story behind how I chose this wig is funny because I actually didn`t. I did not know what I actually ordered since it was a “lucky dip” draw. When I opened my parcel I was beyond happy to see a purple colored fantasy wig. They have a great range of that color, be sure to check them out.

I am very happy with how that lucky dip ended up. Violet Rhapsody wig made all my fantasy hair color dreams come true.

Wig review: Just peachy lace front wig by Zella Rose Wigs

A girl can never have too many shoes, bags, lipsticks or wigs. Yes my friends, I have added one more to my wig collection. In this new wig review I will present you this majestic pastel wig Just peachy lace front wig by Zella Rose Wigs.

just peachy zella rose wig

Lace front wig vs regular non-lace wig

Just peachy lace front wig by Zella Rose Wigs is my first lace front wig. I have been wanting to buy one for quite some time. So when opportunity presented I did it and as it seems I purchased the last one in stock. Lucky me!

The main difference between lace front wigs and “regular” wigs (non-lace) is the material of the cap.

The difference

With the lace front, you have the front of the wig that is “made” from lace. “Lace” that is a gentle “lace” looking material with strands of hair glued onto it. To me it looks more like tulle than lace.

The regular ones have some other material and strands of hair are glued in rows with gaps in between.

Lace front wigs create an illusion of real hair with (mostly) changeable parting parts, as where the regular (non-lace) wigs do not offer that option.

With regular non-lace wigs you are confined to the fringe-parting style you bought. Long side swept fringes will never become middle parting fringe or you will never be able to pull them up in an up do.

With lace fronts you can do that. You can create several different styles, change the parting, experiment and add your unique personal touch.

Just to note, there are full lace wigs too that offer even more flexibility (as I have read), but since I do not own any I can`t talk from my own experience.

Just peachy lace front wig is a pastel dream magnificence

I do not remember exactly how I stumbled upon Zella Rose wigs, but boy am I glad I did.
The moment I saw Just peachy lace front wig by Zella Rose I knew it had to be mine, because I have never ever seen anything like it. The perfect color combo of ginger-peach-pink pastel shades that blend seamlessly.

Just peachy lace front wig pastel dream

What is Just peachy all about

Just peachy is super long lace front wig – 22 inches, with huge bouncy curls. It is the longest wig I own and for me personally takes time to get used to it, since I have never ever had hair long like that.

The wig is resistant to high temperature which means you can curl it more or straighten it (and make it even longer), but of course do that with care and caution as you would with your natural hair. It is synthetic hair and it will burn if you expose it to too much heat.

Just peachy is not only long but very thick and rich, giving you a nice luscious mane worthy of a lion. The wig has an adjustable cap to increase fit and comfort, little “hooks” to add security and you don`t need to apply glue.

How to style Just peachy lace front wig?

If you go over to Zella Rose website you can see that the wig comes with a center parting. Personally, I did not like that because I have a small face and all this hair just eats me up. So, I tried a few different ways of styling, just tried to find what works best for me.

just peachy wig up-do

How to style a wig

As you can see I decided to try a half up-do with a messy top knot, and it worked very well. Don`t be surprised if you have a bit of a challenge with securing the bun (knot) on top of your hair, since this is a wig and you have way more hair than usual.

Hair is heavy too and when you secure it with pins or whatever you are using – be very careful and gentle so you don`t break your wig (cap).

If you want to change the side of your parting you can do it easy with just a blow dryer or curling iron. Just go over the new parting with some heat and that will “seal” the hair in place. Be careful with the amount of heat, you don`t want to burn/melt your wig.

Wig care

Taking care of your wig is one of the most important things when it comes to long quality wig life. Store it properly in zip-lock bags, away from dust and liquids, or anything that could make it dirty or sticky. You know what I mean.

How to wash your wig

Washing your wig is an easy task and how often should you wash it depends on how often you wear it and in what conditions. You will know when it is time to wash it by the smell if nothing else.

I don`t wear my wigs every day, my home is cigarette free and I avoid wearing my wigs to coffee shops etc. But if you wear them daily and in different conditions you should was your wig more often.

You can see the detailed post about washing your wigs here.

Removing that shine

Also,  “de-shining” your wig is an important process of your wig wearing, which means you might need to wash your wig even if it did not get worn often and in smelly conditions. Why?
There are few ways to de-shine your wig. One is by leaving it soaking in a bucket for 5-7 days in fabric softener (I haven`t tried that one yet). Second is “bathing” your wig with talc/baby powder.

In my experience, with some wigs I had no problem when I applied baby powder. With peach and one other (new) wig I experienced some stickiness and ends being more coarse. Also the wig was full of static electricity which is a horrible experience when you want to brush your wig out or wear it.

When that happens – wash your wig. I use the same shampoo and conditioner as for my own hair. Be gentle and careful. Leave it to dry on a head stand or on a dry towel nicely laid down on my dresser. It takes a day or so to dry.

….and that is it folks!

I have few more wig styles I plan share with you. A long curly purple wig and a new “short” red lace front.

Wow, this post ended up being longer than I could ever imagine. I hope you don`t mind.
If I forgot anything feel free to ask. You have the comment section and my social media to ask anything and everything.

Pinup style edition: Red kiss or a short list of classic pinup staples

“There is a shade of red for every woman” – said one of the biggest icons (not only fashion wise because she was so much more than a pretty face) of our time, Audrey Hepburn. And it is true, red has many shades and I am sure there is a right shade of red for every woman in the world.

With this topic I would like to start my small themed set of posts called “Pinup style edition” that will, in short present my take on mid-century fashion and beauty.

Pinup style edition: red kiss

When it comes to shades of red for my lips, I like them juicy and bright red. The reddest red shade with only red tones is what I will choose any time of the day. Normally, I don`t wear lipstick that much, to be honest. And that is for two reasons; first being that I find it very very hard to find that perfect red shade that won`t become pinkish or orange-y when I put it on – which usually happens. So far I had a hard time finding that perfect red shade, I always settled with something “close” but not quite “right”. For some reason all lipsticks, no matter how red they look while off, seem pink when on my lips.

I did a bit of digging and entertaining the thought of buying a new red lipstick, and found few that seem deliciously perfect.
1941 – Victory Red Lipstick Special Edition from Besame cosmetics looks really good, but maybe a bit too dark for what I am actually looking for – BUT – i like the darker shade to my own surprise so very much. Will put it on the list.

I didnt expect to get mind-blown by Lime crime velve-tin matte liquid lipstic, but I was, so much. My shade would be “Red velvet”. It look so good. Red Rose shade is also very nice, bit darker.

From Urban Decay I would pick the shade DOUBT (hahaha pun intended) from their Vice lipstick collection.

LeKeux Cosmetics has the most fabulous name if you ask me and a pretty nice shade of red – Whistle Bait.

So, you got the idea that red lips are one of the staples of a classic pinup look. Don`t get me wrong, you can wear any shade you like, or need to – but red lips with black winged liner are what pinup look is well known for, at least when it comes to make up.

Aside from red lips, as I mentioned above, winged liner is another staple in classic pinup look.
When it comes to winged liner most girls and women get discouraged of trying it because it seems so complicated to master. And for me – it is! But fear not. There is a solution for everything and one of the reasons I decided to work more on my blog and start “Pinup style edition” is because I want to share the goods and the bads of life as a pinup. A woman. A person in this wast universe.

So back to the winged liner. I tried it all. Liquid liners, sharpie looking liners, brushes with tips like this or that and nothing worked for me. Also I dont like the way my eyes and face look with that harsh black liner. I am white as a paper and pure black is too sharp/edgy/hard for me.

What did I do to make it work?
After I found what works for me, I wear winged liner every single day. And in any color I wish.

How did I make it work?

I use eye shadow. Plain and simple. Regular eye shadow.
When it comes to the shade of my “liner” I use dark grey anthracite eye shadow to draw wings on my eyes.
To make my wings I use a simple regular brush like this. [ TBH I actually use my lip liner brush to make my wings but the one on the link is the next best thing. My best advice is – see for yourself what works for you (and maybe only you). ]

It took me some time to learn my face, to get familiar with my skin and to figure out how to work the brush for the best result.

And let me tell you, it was a game changer for me.

Do you remember my winged liner issues from this post? How I wish I knew then what I know now. But, you live and learn. And share your knowledge with the world.

[ A little side note
Do you like my graphics for this post?
I hope you do. They were made in Canva, but I will share my tools and the process of making my graphic with you soon in a separate post.]

With lips and eyes out of the way, to nail the famous pinup look all the way you need to pay attention to your hair and nails. Before we continue, let me emphasize this:

There is no right or wrong way to do this, and by this I mean “be a pinup”. I have seen so many people hazing others around the world, in real life but mostly on social media and put them down because in their opinion they did it  – wrong.
Sure, there are some “rules” that were made in 1950s, and by rules I dont mean rules you need to blindly follow, but the rules that describe and help us understand how women of that time wore their clothes, did their hair and makeup.
Having those guidelines and not rules you are free to develop your own pinup style and make it special the way you want to.

With that said, lets talk hair.
Pinup hair is one big special area where I personally have the least expertise (I dont think I have any expertise anywhere, I just manage my life barely.), but thank god we have internet these days that makes it possible for us to watch tutorials from those who rock their hair like – Miss Rockabilly Ruby, Cherry Dollface or Ashley Marie.

For all the step-by-step tutorials please go and watch their tutorials, they have you covered all the way.

What I will share here with you hair wise is this:

Types of pinup hair styles!

This way you will have the basic idea what you are looking for and where to find it.

  1. Victory rolls (what I have in my photo above)
  2. Page boy
  3. Boufant
  4. Bettie Page hair
  5. Chignon
  6. Finger waves
  7. Pixie cut a la Audrey Hepburn
  8. different updo`s or half updo`s including victory rolls and curls

….. aaand, last but not least – Nails.
When it comes to nails the most famous modern pinup nail style is red half moon by Dita von Teese, but it is good to know that women really painted their nails that way back then.
Nowadays (modern) pinups wear their nails in almond shape, usually red (with or without aforementioned half moon).
If you prefer your nails not so long, of in gel – that is OK. We all have our own ideas of beauty and how we like to go about things and wear them, like I have my nails with white tips in this photo – red is no where to be found.

Although it is said that red nail polish is one of the staples of a classic pinup look, do as you are pleased.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, anyway.

I hope you liked the first post of my Pinup style edition blog series. If you have any suggestions what to include – leave a comment, email me or find me on social media.

Candy cane wishes and mistletoe kisses

Stripes or polka dots?
That is the eternal question and I say both! It is hard to choose between them, and when in doubt – mix and match. Play with textures and wear just the thing that makes you feel special.

For this Holiday edition: Christmas pinup outfit inspiration I have decided to be playful and cheery like the season itself. I had Santa`s little helpers and Winter wonderland on my mind. Stripes, dots and even gingerbread at your service!

Which one is your favorite?

I hope these gave you some great jolly ideas what to wear this holiday season. It is not about spending money, but creating your own magic. These skirts and dresses, these outfit inspirations are a wish list that would be nice to have in my closet (but not necessary) and that was nice to create and daydream about.
If you could put anything on your Xmas wish list what would it be?

For more holiday outfit inspiration check out my last year`s post, I had fun creating one sassy but very feminine look inspired by seasons favorite colors – red and green. Or – how to wear holiday colors and not end up looking like a Christmas tree.

Keep calm
and
get your HO HO HO on

Enjoy your December and make every second count.

1920s inspired look on a budget

Dressing up in  a 1920s inspired look is not something I do every day. May once a year and it has been several years now since I last did it.
Although I don`t feel the same kind of love and appeal towards 1920s fashion it is fun to do it from time to time, put all that glitter and sparkles, feathers and pearl strings and just enjoy the glam era like a boss.

1920s inspired look on a budget

When I think about 1920s (that was almost 100 years ago) Great Gatsby parties come to mind. But there was a lot going on besides just crazy good parties in dashing outfits.

The 1920s were an age of dramatic social and political change. For the first time, more Americans lived in cities than on farms. The nation’s total wealth more than doubled between 1920 and 1929, and this economic growth swept many Americans into an affluent but unfamiliar “consumer society.” People from coast to coast bought the same goods (thanks to nationwide advertising and the spread of chain stores), listened to the same music, did the same dances and even used the same slang! Many Americans were uncomfortable with this new, urban, sometimes racy “mass culture”; in fact, for many–even most–people in the United States, the 1920s brought more conflict than celebration. However, for a small handful of young people in the nation’s big cities, the 1920s were roaring indeed. – History channel

1920s inspired look on a budget

When you got the dress all you need is a headband, glitter, feathers and gloves and lots and lots of pearls. For the purposes of my little 1920s inspired look photo shoot I had all that already at home, so it was a cost free project but I guarantee that if you get a bit creative you can totally do it on a budget. I always do!

1920s flapper girl gatsby inspired

So my dress was actually not flapper/charlston/gatsby/1920s inspired at all. It has open back decorated with strings of black “pearls” which is very nice, works as a nice toned down, demure decoration if like to keep it low key or you dont want to wear regular pearls (in the front). The most fun part of the dress is that it is actually a mini dress that has a “puffy” top part and tight bottom part. I stretched it all the way down to my knees to get that 1920s dress silhouette. A headband, 1920s inspired makeup (but I kept it pretty light and low key) and pearls – et voila!

Vintage 1920s gatsby girl pearls

Usually the makeup is much more intense but I was in the mood for something gentle and subtle. Go for darker colors, statement on eyes and brows but lips too (baby doll lips). Might seem a bit much at first and against all makeup rules, but that was the way women did their faces back then. I think there are a many examples of truly beautiful ways to do your 1920s inspired makeup, stay close to modern ages and still ooze that vintage flapper vibe. Pinterest is your friend!

If you follow the link to the 1920s board I made for this post, you will see all the different looks I pinned for inspiration. Some are more intense, some totally low key, there more contemporary ones and true vintage makeup looks – see what you like, what is closer to true you or what would you like to try and just – do it! Play. Enjoy.
